Speak Visual

Well, here I am, on a school night, awake far past the time I should have been asleep. I’ve become slightly addicted to painting this piece, which has caused me to put off any other kind of work until this is finished. I think I am finally at a point where I can say I’m satisfied, as I think the message in the image is successfully conveyed.

So what does it mean to me to Speak Visual? It means being able to share emotions, experiences, and thoughts that cannot be described through any other means other than an image. When I create my artwork, I try to incorporate ideas and feelings that have impacted me throughout my life, and share them with the viewer. I’ve tried to make it a point to remain visually aware of everything going on around me, and to ask questions as to why or how something is happening like this. It is in nature where these questions often occur, and I enjoy trying to capture that through my art.

I remember when I was young, seeing a shooting star for the first time, and being flooded with this ominous, awe inspiring sensation. It is a feeling that I find a little difficult to describe exactly in words and much more effective to do through an image. I like to leave the viewer with more questions than answers, so that they stop and think when they look at my artwork. Far too often people do not take the time to think about things, to let their imagination go. Some seem too concerned with realistic and tangible ideas to worry about things that could never exist. It’s my goal to have these people pause for a minute, and to inspire some sort of extraordinary, impossible ideas to flow through their mind.

I hope I was able to do that with this image, and create a sort of wondrous curiosity as to what’s going on in the picture.
